AI stagingIn closed beta

Furnish an empty room in a listing photo, compare it with the original, and add it to your listing with a "Virtually staged" label.

In closed beta. This feature is open to a small group of professionals while we finish it, so it may change. It is coming to every account.

An empty room is hard to picture. Virtual staging furnishes it in a photo, so buyers can see how the space could be lived in. The Matchai Assistant does the staging, and every staged photo on your listing page is labelled Virtually staged.

Before you start

  • Choose a photo of an empty room. Staging is made for rooms with nothing in them.
  • The photo must be on a listing you can edit. Add it first if it is not there yet. See photos and media.
  • Pick a style. If you do not name one, the assistant uses modern.
StyleWhat it looks like
ModernContemporary furniture with clean lines, neutral upholstery, a large rug and a plant or two.
ScandinavianPale woods, light textiles and simple forms.
TraditionalClassic furniture: warm woods, upholstered seating, a patterned rug and framed art.
MinimalA few well-proportioned pieces, plenty of open floor and muted colours.

If you ask for another style, the assistant offers these four.

Stage a room

Open Assistant. Type @ and pick the listing.

Say which photo and which style. For example: "virtually stage the empty living room photo in a Scandinavian style". The assistant can look at your photos to find the right one. Looking is free.

A card shows the empty room and how much Energy staging it uses, then waits. Approve it to start.

Edited photo comes back marked Staged, with Before above After. Compare the two.

Choose Add as new photo, Replace original or Discard.

If you chose to add or replace, a second card shows exactly what changes on your listing. Approve it. This step is free.

Nothing on your listing changes until you approve that second card.

  • Add as new photo puts the staged photo at the end of your gallery, and the empty room stays too. Buyers can see both.
  • Replace original puts the staged photo where the empty room was. The original file is kept, so you can put it back.
  • Discard leaves your listing as it was. The card says Set aside. Nothing changed on the listing.

Compare before you add

Look at the After photo as a buyer would. Furniture should be scaled to the room and lit like the photo. The assistant asks for loose furnishings only, such as furniture, rugs, lamps, art, textiles and plants, and the photo editor is instructed never to change what is built: walls, windows, doors, floors, fixtures, the room itself or the view. Check that before you add it.

Not what you wanted? Ask for another style, or the same style again. Each try uses Energy.

The "Virtually staged" label

A staged photo shows Virtually staged on your public listing page, and in your media manager. The result card tells you so before you add it: Shows a "Virtually staged" badge on your public page.

The label stays with the photo. If you later sharpen or retouch a staged photo, the new version is still labelled Virtually staged.

Why staged photos are always labelled

A staged photo shows furniture that is not in the property. In some markets, showing one without saying so breaks the rules, and in every market it costs trust when a buyer walks into an empty room. The label tells buyers exactly which photos were staged, so your photos keep their credibility, and so do you. That is also why a staged photo reaches your listing only after you have seen it and said yes.

Put the original back

Ask the assistant to put the original photo back. It shows you the photo on your listing now and what comes back, then waits. Approve it, and your listing page changes straight away.

It is free. The label follows the photo that comes back, so your own photograph of the empty room shows no label. The staged version is not deleted: you find it, with your other edited photos, under Studio in Matchai Cloud.

What it costs

Each staging uses a little Matchai Energy, and the card tells you how much before it starts. Adding the photo to your listing, replacing the original and putting the original back are free.
