WebsitesIn closed beta

Let the Matchai Assistant work on other websites for you, in your own browser, while you watch. What it needs, what it does, and what always asks.

In closed beta. This feature is open to a small group of professionals while we finish it, so it may change. It is coming to every account.

The assistant can work on other websites for you: look something up on a city's website, fill in a form on a portal, draft a listing on a site you use. It works in your own browser, where you are already signed in, and you can watch every step. In the assistant's Tools, this is the Websites area.

Just ask for the task in the chat, the way you would ask a colleague. Not sure where to start? Ask "What can you do in my browser?" or "Which websites do you already know?". A website the assistant has not seen before is not off limits: it works the page out as it goes.

For a plain question about something public, such as a municipality's rules or a school, the assistant searches the web and reads public pages without opening your browser at all.

What you need

  • A computer. Tasks on websites do not run on a phone.
  • Chrome, with Matchai for Chrome. The extension is what lets the assistant work in your browser. See Matchai for Chrome to install it and for the browsers it supports.

If the extension is missing, the task's card offers Add to Chrome and waits. If you are on a phone or another browser, the card says the task needs Chrome on a computer.

Run a task

Ask for the task in the chat, with what it needs: the address, the listing, the website if you know it.

The assistant puts a card in the chat. It shows where the task Starts on, the Task in plain words, and that it Asks you before any final button, and before attaching your files.

Choose Start. The site opens in your Chrome, and the page glows at its edges while the assistant works. The card shows each step as it happens.

When the task ends, its result arrives in the chat as its own message, with anything it saved, such as a page filed on the listing or saved to your Cloud.

Choose Stop on the card at any time to end the task. After a task ends, Run again runs it once more.

You can ask for other things while a task runs. The conversation carries on, and the result arrives when it is ready.

When it needs you

The assistant does the work and stops only when it needs you:

  • A question. If it needs a detail you have not given, it asks on the card. Type in Your answer and press Send. If you already gave that detail in the conversation, the assistant answers for you and says what it answered.
  • A page that is yours to do. A sign-in page, a CAPTCHA or a card form: the assistant tells you what it is waiting on and hands you the page. Do that one thing in the window, then choose I'm done — carry on.
  • A final button. Before any button that signs, pays, sends, publishes, deletes or submits, or that confirms, orders or authorises, it asks: "Ready to press « Submit »?". Choose Press it, or Not yet to take the page yourself. For a payment, the card shows the price, or warns you when the page does not show one.
  • Your files. Before it puts one of your files on a website, it asks with Attach it or Not this one. With several files, tick the ones that may go and choose the Attach button, which shows how many you ticked, or Not these.

Saving a draft, going to the next step, creating something you can still change and downloading do not ask. They change nothing you cannot change back.

Why it works this way

A final button cannot be undone. A payment is made, a form reaches a registry, a message reaches a client. Everything before it can be fixed, so the assistant does it without interrupting you, and your attention goes to the one press that matters. A yes covers that button for the rest of that one task only, so a yes given for one client never presses a button for the next.

Take over

Choose Take over whenever you want the page yourself, for example to show the assistant how a step is done. The assistant steps back. Choose Hand back when you are done, and it carries on from where you left the page.

When you show it a step this way, it remembers the steps for the next time you ask for the same thing. The card lists what it will remember, with Forget if you would rather it did not. It keeps the buttons and fields you used, never what you typed.

What it never does

  • Type your passwords or codes. It never types a password, a card number or a two-factor code. When a page asks for one, it hands the page to you.
  • Press a final button without your yes. Every time, on every website, in every task.
  • Follow instructions on a page. If a website tells it to do something, it treats that as information and asks you, never as an order.

Your rules for websites

In Settings → Matchai for Chrome, under Browser runs:

  • Rules your assistant checks before a run: limits you set, such as how many tasks may start in a day.
  • How you want sites worked: your own instructions for particular websites.
  • What your assistant learned: everything it remembered when you took over, by website. Forget any of it there.

Skills and websites

A skill can include tasks on websites. When you type the skill, its tasks on the websites it lists start on their own after a short countdown, with Stop on each card. When the assistant picks the skill itself, it asks once first. Either way, final buttons still ask. See Approvals.

What it costs

Each task on a website uses Matchai Energy, step by step. If you run out, the task stops before its next step.
