Matchai for ChromeIn closed beta

The Matchai Chrome extension lets your assistant work on other websites in your own browser. How to install it, what it reads, and how to remove it.

In closed beta. This feature is open to a small group of professionals while we finish it, so it may change. It is coming to every account.

Matchai for Chrome is a browser extension. It lets the Matchai Assistant do tasks for you on other websites, such as filling in a form on a portal, right inside your own browser, while you watch. Because it works in your browser, the websites see you as you, and your logins never leave your computer.

The extension does nothing on its own. A run only starts when you ask your assistant for a task on a website. For how those tasks work, see Websites.

Install it

You need a computer with a Chromium browser: Chrome, Edge, Brave or Arc. The extension does not work on phones.

Open Matchai at matchai.co in your browser, then go to Settings → Matchai for Chrome.

Choose Add to Chrome. The Chrome Web Store opens in a new tab.

Add the extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Come back to Matchai and choose I've added it. Settings then shows Added to Chrome and the version you have.

The first time a task needs the extension, your assistant also offers to install it, right in the conversation.

There is no separate sign-in. The extension uses the Matchai account you are signed in to on matchai.co in the same browser. That is also why Settings can only check for the extension on matchai.co: on any other address, such as your own domain, open Matchai on matchai.co to check.

To keep the Matchai icon in view, choose the puzzle-piece button at the top right of Chrome, find Matchai in the list, and select the pin beside it.

What you see during a run

  • The page your assistant is working on glows at its edges, and its tab moves into a green Matchai tab group.
  • Chrome shows its own notice at the top of the window while the extension is working the tab, so your browser tells you as well.
  • Select the Matchai icon in your toolbar to open the side panel. There you can read every step and answer anything your assistant stops to ask.
  • Take over gives you the page at any time. Stop ends the run.

Your assistant always stops and asks before a final button, one that signs, pays, sends, publishes, deletes or submits. Before it puts one of your files into a website, it asks you too, naming the file and the site.

When a page asks for a password, a card number, a one-time code or a CAPTCHA, your assistant hands the page to you and steps back while you type. A run that has waited for you for more than 15 minutes ends on its own.

What it reads, and what it never collects

During a run, and only on the one tab it is working on, the extension reads:

  • A summary of the page: its buttons, links, fields and labels, so your assistant can decide what to do next. It is not stored.
  • A picture of the visible part of the tab, for each step. It is used for that step and not stored.

Matchai keeps a record of each run in your account, so you can see what happened: what you asked for, the pages it reached and the actions it took.

The extension never:

  • reads or sends your passwords, cookies or sign-ins on any website;
  • watches your browsing, or collects your browsing history;
  • does anything outside a run you started;
  • sells your data or uses it for advertising.

When you show your assistant how to do a task so it can learn it, the extension watches only the tabs in an orange Matchai is watching group, and only while you are showing it. It records which buttons and fields you use, never what you type or pick.

The full details, including each browser permission and why it is needed, are in the Matchai browser extension privacy policy.

Why it works this way

The extension asks Chrome for access to all websites, and we would rather say so plainly. You choose the website when you ask for a task, and no list written in advance could cover every portal you use. Access is not use: outside a run you started, the extension reads nothing at all.

Settings for browser runs

Under Browser runs in Settings → Matchai for Chrome:

  • Rules your assistant checks before a run
  • How you want sites worked
  • What your assistant learned

Remove it

Right-click the Matchai icon in your Chrome toolbar.

Choose Remove from Chrome.

Removing the extension stops all of its activity at once. You can add it back any time, and nothing is lost. Removing it does not delete the record of past runs in your Matchai account. To have that deleted, write to privacy@matchai.co.
